HR Indaba Plan of Action

30 March 2008

  •  The outcome was the establishment of a Provincial Task Team to       holistically and collectively address Human Resource for Health (HRH)       demand, supply and retention challenges in the sector.

  •  Professor Mukhululi Lukhele, Specialist Orthopaedic Surgeon and      Academic was nominated as Convenor of the Gauteng HRH Task Team.      The rest of the team is comprised of academia, education and training      institutions, nursing services, professional associations, private sector,      organised labour, provincial, local and national departments and statutory      bodies.

 •  The terms of reference have been developed for the group to finalise     structural, role and responsibilities of stakeholders. Letters of appointment     into the Task Team will be finalised before end of March, pending seconded     support from the respective institutions

 •  The task will be reporting to the Quarterly Review  of the Department of      Health on progress made on  deliverables to be outlined in the Terms of      Reference

  •  An eight point plan of Action was developed with the aim of aligning  all      break- away groups resolutions to the  Plan of Action

•  A process of prioritising the resolutions will be developed to group the      resolutions into Immediate, Short, Medium and Long-term  implementation      schedule

 •  Another important outcome of the Indaba was the decision to hold a special     HRH   multi-lateral meeting between the Gauteng Health Department and     organised labour to strengthen relations and enhance efforts to address     human resource for health.

  •  The immediate action was to do roads shows (Starting April) in Gauteng      and openly calling on all health professionals to make their services      available to the Department. The road shows will be a joint effort of the      Department and SAMA affiliated bodies like Society for General      Practitioners
