Bursary Advert For Full Time Studies (Non Employees)

The Gauteng Department of Health is inviting a limited number of applications for new bursaries and financial assistance to students residing in Gauteng Province who wish to study at a South African University.

The purpose for the Bursary Scheme is to provide financial assistance for the education, training and skills development of historically disadvantaged South Africans who are considering a career in the Health care professions. To this end the bursary policy is committed to achieving the employment equity imperatives within the National skills Development Strategy and the Gauteng Department of Health strategic priorities.

It promotes career development within the Health care professions and scarce skills. Applicants must demonstrate a willingness to be part of a dedicated and skilled workforce committed to Health for a better life for the population of Gauteng and all South Africans.

Within the framework of the Department's Human Resource recruitment policy, the selection of candidates is based on the following criteria:
Applicants must

  • Be South African citizens;
  • Have been permanent residents in the Gauteng Province for at least one year prior to application;
  • Study at a recognized institution of higher learning in the Republic of South Africa ;
  • Preference will be given to applicants who excel academically and/or demonstrate potential;
  • Preference will be given to applicants who have not previously benefited from the Gauteng Department of Health's Bursary fund;
  • Preference will be given to those who have not previously benefited from any other bursary scheme.

Please Note:All successful applicants will be required to enter into a contractual agreement with the Gauteng Department of Health.
Applicants for bursaries and financial assistance are invited in the following fields for the 2009 academic year for full time studies.

Students who are currently enrolled and studying for 2008 at an institution of higher learning-University/ University of Technology

  • MBCHB
  • Environmental Health
  • B. Pharmacy
  • Speech Therapy, Language , Audiology and Pathology
  • Physiotherapy
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Medical Physicist
  • Clinical Psychology

Grade 12 applicants who have obtained acceptance at an institution of higher learning-University/ University of Technology for 2009.

  • Medical Orthotics & Prosthetics
  • Dietetics
  • Oral Hygiene
  • Dental Technology
  • Dental Therapy
  • Clinical Engineers
  • Clinical Technology
  • Podiatry
  • Optometry
  • Diagnostic Radiography , Radiotherapy

Grade 12 applicants who have maths and science as matriculant subjects and who wish to study to become Pharmacy Assistance.

Application forms can be obtained and completed submissions returned to the Human Resource Managers at the following Hospitals:
