Impact of Climate Change on Health
At the World Health Day Celebration at Bophelong Stadium
in Boipatong, near Sebokeng on Monday

The Minister of Health Dr Manto Tshabalala-Msimang will highlight the impact of global warming on the pattern of diseases and health challenges during her keynote address to mark the World Health Day celebrations in Boipatong on Monday, 07 April.

This year's World Health Day focuses on the need to protect health from the adverse effects of climate change, in line with the 2008 theme: " protecting health from climate change ".The theme was selected by the World Health Organisation (WHO), in recognition that climate change is posing ever growing threats to global public health security.

The dialogue on global warming and related health challenges aims to better prepare countries to strengthen surveillance and control of infectious diseases, as well as to ensure safer use of diminishing water supplies and promote better coordination in emergencies.

Gauteng Health MEC Mr Brian Hlongwa together with senior officials from WHO, and Departments of Water Affairs and Environmental Affairs will the attend the World Health Day celebrations, which will kick-off with a Health Walk from the stadium at 8.30am, followed by the screening of diseases.

These activities form part of our Healthy Lifestyle Campaign to encourage regular physical activity and regular screenings to encourage early detection and management of preventable diseases.
