Walking for charity and continued efforts to raise health awareness took center stage as the Department joined a staggering 50 000 participants for this year's MTN Walk the Talk with 702.
According to runnersworld.com this is the biggest walking event in the country. The occasion is attended by walkers of all fitness levels and abilities – there's a 15km walk which winds through some of Johannesburg's iconic landmarks, an 8km walk which goes through the leafy suburbs in and around Emmarentia, and a 5km walk which attracts a lot of families walking with kids, grandparents, prams and even the family dog.
The Gauteng Department of Health registered 151 participants for this year's event – all doing it for a worthy cause.
A charitable and health-rewarding exercise according to Central Office Hospital Services Directorate's Thandeka Buthelezi;
"I started taking part in the walk from last year and personally, I continue to do it to keep fit and for my overall wellbeing. And I must say after completing 15 kilometres this time around, I truly feel great!" added Buthelezi.
All partakers were handed medals after crossing the finish line for their participation.
