Thelle Simon Mogoerane was born on the 10th April 1959 in Strirtonville now called Reiger Park,     Boksburg. He was the second of the six children of Daniel and Christine Mogoerane.

The apartheid regime removed African community by force from Stirtonville between 1963 and 1964 and settled them in a remote area now called Vosloorus in Ekurhuleni.

Thelle started his basic education in 1965 at Nageng primary school, and then proceeded to Illinge Secondary School where he obtained his junior certificate with distinction in 1975. The following year he went to Mampoi High school in Qwaqwa to further his studies.

When the 1976 student uprising started in Soweto, Thelle's political activism was ignited. Thelle Mogoerane was part of three young, brave members of Umkhonto Wesizwe G 5 Unit known as Moroka three:Thelle Simon Mogoerane, Jerry Semano Mosolodi, Marcus Thabo Motaung, lost their lives at the brutal hands of the apartheid hangman on the 9th of June 1983 .

He died because he dared to fight a system that had unleashed unbearable terror on the oppressed people of South Africa.

In the eyes of those who hanged them, Thelle Mogoerane and his comrades were "terrorists". But to the overwhelming majority of the people of South Africa and to the people of the world they were heroes, patriots, freedom fighters, martyrs.

Thelle Mogoerane and his comrades were executed despite many calls for clemency by the global anti-apartheid movement and the United Nations.

The G5 Unit was one of the units that made former ANC President OR Tambo so proud that he is reported to have said that it would be among the first MK units that recognition should be given to, after unbanning and the liberation movement's return from exile
