District Hospital was founded by the erstwhile Bophuthatswana Government
Administration in 1990 and was officially opened by Dr
on the 06/11/1992.
As a community facility Odi
Hospital served the Communities of Odi
District and its catchment area, and was a referral hospital for clinics and
Community Health Centers of more than 16 areas of Odi
Hospital has 227 approved and 198 usable beds with a bed occupancy rate of
around 69% and average length of stay of 3 days, both of which are almost in
line with the National Norms of 70%-75% and 3.2 days respectively.
As a homeland “independent” state Bophuthatswane
Government had a historical disadvantage in the recruitment of South African
Health Professionals especially doctors and Allied Health Staff, hence almost
of medical officers were foreigners.
With the new Government
transformation agenda, the position of responsibility changed to business like
style of management. Hospitals were of
first priority. CEO’s replaced Superintendent
as heads of the hospital, matrons replaced by Nursing Services Managers and
Secretaries were replaced by Corporate Services Managers / Administration
The current Management Team
(2010-2017) consist of Ms M.D. Mekgoe (CEO), Dr T.P.
Dlamini (Clinical Manager), Ms S.J.
Boshoman (NSM), Mr H.R. Matamela (ASD Admin), Mr
(Finance Manager), Ms O. Moteme
(Procurement Manager), Mr V. Nakene (HR Manager) and Ms
(FMU Manager). All these managers
contribute to the success of this hospital significantly.
District Hospital pride itself of a rich history of giving a warm, friendly and
quality health care for the past 25 years of its existence.
